Oscars 2022: Air Date, Nominations and How to Watch

As awards season approaches, they’re no bigger than the Oscars, which are the de facto gold standard for Hollywood’s best films.

We’re all used to spending the next morning debating who should win what, but those who are truly committed will try to watch the Oscars live – although if you want to watch it Oscar awards in the UK, you can come see it late one night.

We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about event 2022 including organizers, nominees, how to stream the event, and more.

When will the Oscars 2022 take place?

The Oscars 2022 is currently scheduled to be held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater in Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT / 1am GMT (March 28). It will be broadcast on TV and around the world.

Like last year, Oscar eligibility has changed to accommodate COVID, with digital releases being considered for awards. Normally, the show only considers movies that have already been released in theaters, but if they did this year there wouldn’t be enough titles to fill all the nominations.

Oscars on which channel?

If you’re in the US, the Oscars will air on ABC.

In the UK, Sky Cinema will broadcast the event on its Sky Cinema Oscars sub-channel (channel 302), starting with red carpet coverage and then the entire awards ceremony.

This will be followed up with a highlight clip on Sky Showcase HD at 7pm on Monday, March 28.

If you are not already a Sky Cinema customer, you can sign up from the Sky website. If not, you might be better off looking online through Now – more on that next.

If you’re in the UK and don’t have a Sky account, or you’d simply rather stream the Oscars than watch it on TV, all Sky coverage will be streamed through Now.

Now’s Cinema membership costs £9.99 per month, but new customers can often get the offer,

If you don’t want to pay for Now then you can always try to use a VPN to access the free US ABC stream – though be warned that it’s not guaranteed to work. Our current top VPN recommendation is NordVPN, but check out our full VPN rating to learn more.

Who will host the Oscars 2022?

This year, the Oscars ceremony will have three hosts: Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. This is the first ceremony in a while with hosts.

There will also be musical performances from Beyoncé and Billie Eilish.

Who are the Oscar 2022 nominees?

The Power of the Dog and Dune are leading the nominations with 12 and 10 nods each. Both Belfast and West Side Story received seven nominations.

Some of the biggest movies of 2021 are also jostling for awards, including No Time to Die and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It is worth noting that not all award categories will be fully covered during this year’s ceremony. Instead, a selected number will be displayed for an hour before the broadcast begins and then edited into the program. Categories that receive this treatment are documentary short, editing, makeup and hairdo, original point, production design, animated short, live action short film and sound.

Although the idea was to make the ceremony shorter to watch, the decision was met with criticism from both industry insiders and Oscar fans alike.
