How To Watch The FA Cup On TV, Online & Abroad

The 2021-22 FA Cup will end this weekend. A total of 637 teams started qualifying in August, but only two reached the final.

Liverpool are the favorites as they chase an unprecedented back four, but Chelsea will be on the field for revenge. Jürgen Klopp’s side beat the Blues on penalties to win the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

For Chelsea, this is their only chance to win the title this season. With Liverpool playing key Premier League games on either side of the final, Thomas Tuchel will sense an opportunity to capitalize on.

As usual, the final will take place at Wembley Stadium. Here’s how to watch it all live, even if you’re outside the UK.

Who plays in the FA Cup final?

After defeating Crystal Palace and Man City in the semi-finals, respectively, Chelsea and Liverpool will compete for tickets to the FA Cup final. In the UK you have a choice of broadcasters:

Sat May 14

  • Chelsea vs Liverpool – KO 4:45pm – BBC One / BBC iPlayer / ITV / ITV Hub

To see who both teams beat to get this far, there’s a complete guide to all results on the FA’s website.

Where to watch the FA Cup in the UK

The FA Cup will be broadcast exclusively on free-to-air channels in the UK this season, after BT Sport’s contract ends.

As a result, the television rights are split between the BBC and ITV this season. The two broadcasters shared the top picks for each round and a semi-final, but both show the final on May 14, 2022.

Both are free to watch, as long as you have a TV license. This costs currently £159 per year and is a requirement if you watch any live TV or use BBC iPlayer. Once sorted, simply navigate to BBC One on your TV or head to iPlayer to start streaming.

For games on ITV, you can simply use the ITV Hub, but you’ll still need a license for any live TV shows. The capture of other content is exempt.

Not in the UK? Does not matter

Watching the FA Cup in the UK is easy, but you can still watch BBC and ITV from abroad with a VPN.

This allows you to connect to encrypted servers and appear in another country, complete with a new IP address that cannot be traced back to you. That also makes it a good choice for protecting your privacy.

One particularly good option is NordVPN, which you can check out here. Just install it on your computer, phone or tablet and you can watch matches if you’re outside the UK. For more great options, check out our chart of the best VPNs.
