How to set up Nintendo Switch

For starters, get everything out of the box and ready to go.

Step 1

Plug the AC adapter into the wall and plug the USB-C cable into the bottom of the Switch console – the same way you charge a smartphone.

Step 2

If you have a Regular Switch, attach the Joy-Con controller to the console and turn it on with the power button on the top. If you have a newer Switch Lite, the controller is already built in, so you can just press the power button.

Step 3

Following the on-screen instructions will guide you through the different settings and how to use the Switch in different modes.

These steps include choosing a language, connecting to the internet, creating a profile, linking a Nintendo account, and connecting to a TV – although this last step only applies to the original Switch. For some, you can choose to do them later.

Step 4

Once the setup is complete, you will see the main screen. You can now insert game cartridges (or download games) and play in any Switch mode.
