How to set up an Xbox One

Congratulations! You already have your Xbox One, Xbox One S or Xbox One X in hand.

The first step is to set up your Xbox One, both physically and digitally. It’s a pretty straightforward process, but our Xbox One setup guide is here to make it even simpler.

Plug in your Xbox One

Make sure you have Wi-Fi, TV, and storage network access and details for your Xbox.

Take everything out of the Xbox One box and place the console on a flat surface near the TV you plan to use. Make sure there’s nothing obstructing the Xbox’s vents and that you’re within reach of the outlet.

Now grab your HDMI cable. Plug one end into the HDMI socket on the back of the Xbox One, then plug one end into the back of the TV. Alternatively, find the Xbox Controller and insert the battery in the back. If batteries aren’t your thing, you can also opt for a rechargeable battery pack for the controller.

If you have a genuine Xbox One, plug the power cable into the power outlet on the back of the console, then plug the auxiliary cable into the power source (big black block). The other end will go into the electrical outlet.

If you have a newer Xbox One S or One X, power is built in so you can plug your console directly into a wall outlet using the supplied cable.

Your Xbox is now set up and working fine, so it’s time to focus on the digital setup.
