How to Record Your Screen and Webcam in Windows 10

One of the most premium features released in Windows 10’s May 2019 Update is the Xbox Game Bar. Designed to create a more immersive PC gaming experience, it provides various tools to all users via a quick shortcut.

Among these is the ability to record your screen, which works well across all Windows 10 apps. However, you’ll still need third-party software if you want to capture the screen at once.

How to record your screen in Windows 10

Technically, Xbox Game Bar is available on all Windows 10 PCs, but won’t work on some. This includes people with a specific type of graphics card, but it’s still worth a shot if you’re unsure.

It is also important to note that the Game Bar will not be able to record in File Explorer or directly on the desktop. When using these apps, the recording option will be grayed out and you will see the message ‘Gaming features not available for Windows desktop or File Explorer’.

Before you begin, it is important to check that the Game Bar is enabled. Go to Settings > Game > Game bar and make sure the toggle is set to ‘On’.

  1. Open the same Shooting menu as above, by going to Settings > Game
  2. Under ‘Background recording’ make sure the switch is enabled. Again, you may have to accept some permissions
