How to Get PS5 Screenshots & Videos Onto Your Phone

PlayStation players have had the ability to take screenshots and videos on their consoles for years, but getting them onto phones has always been a bit of a challenge. Despite the PS5’s next-gen features, it’s been a story nonetheless – for now.

In a surprise move, Sony has released a new feature that will automatically upload your PS5 screenshots and videos to the PlayStation app on your smartphone. The rollout was slower than some would have liked, but is now available in the UK, US and many other territories.

If you’re one of the lucky gamers with this feature, here’s how to easily upload PS5 snapshots to your smartphone right now.

How to automatically transfer PS5 screenshots and videos to your phone

The good news is that there are no new software updates to accommodate the new feature, which means it will be available to players running software 21.02-04.50.00 or later.

The problem is that the rollout is slow, with US players appearing to be among the first in line to access this functionality. It was not until two months later that the UK and other regions gained access.

But hey, it’s here now and here’s how to enable it:

  1. On your PS5 Home menu, select Game Library.
  2. Open the Media Library app (it can go down even more if you haven’t used it before).
  3. If you see a pop-up notifying you of the new automatic upload feature, agree to enable it. If you don’t see the pop-up, the feature isn’t rolling out in your region yet.
  4. Force quit the PS App on your smartphone if it is open.
  5. Open the PS App and tap the Game Library icon.
  6. Select the New Capture menu.
  7. Browse and save your screenshots and clips to your smartphone.

It should be pointed out that it won’t sync all screenshots and videos you’ve taken. Instead, you’ll find everything you’ve captured in the last 14 days – which makes sense, as you’ll likely want to share your achievements immediately after shooting.

It’s also important to note that it won’t upload screenshots taken before you enabled the feature, only ones taken later.
