If you’re tired of the same emojis appearing when you’re replying to Facebook Messenger posts, here’s help.
The app now lets you pick your favorite reactions and put them in the shortcut pop-ups that appear when you’re chatting with friends. You also get access to new themes that bring even more to the party.
How to change reaction emoji in favorites bar
When you’re exchanging messages with friends on Messenger, long-pressing on a reply opens a small selection of emojis that you can use for quick replies. While this is a useful range of options, you may find that they don’t necessarily reflect your personal expressions.
The good news is that swapping different emojis in and out of the favorites bar is really easy. Here’s what you need to do.
Tap and hold a post from one of your friends until you see the favorites bar appear. On the left side you will see + Icon. Click this and you’ll see a new page showing your current reaction, with a section below that includes all the other available emojis. To change your favorites, tap Custom right to buy.
Next, you’ll see a favorites bar at the top of the page, with all the unused emojis underneath. Tap the emoji in the favorites bar that you want to replace, then choose one of the emojis from the other section to replace it. You can change as much as you like and of course you can also reset the original options.
When you’re happy with your selection, tap the checkmark icon in the top right corner, otherwise tap the circular arrow to reset the favorites bar. Now, whenever you tap and hold on someone’s post, you’ll see a new selection appear.
How to change the theme on Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger now allows you to choose from a variety of themes that display in the background and gives you a dedicated emoji that comes with a color palette. To select a new topic, tap a conversation, then tap the name at the top of the page.
You will see the option Topic, so click here to open the full menu. There are several specialized themes you can choose from, along with a range of colors if you just want to give Messenger a fresh coat of paint.
Tap on the theme you want to use, then you’ll see the backdrop converted to the new look, and to the right of the text bar you’ll also see a dedicated emoji that you can post just by click on it. If you prefer a different instant emoji, tap the name of the conversation again, then tap the Emoji option and choose a new one.
